Transformers

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Awesome!

Everything you ever wanted or loved in any movie1 except zombies and dragons is in this movie. Among them are fast cars, beautiful people, wisecracking teenagers, drunken parents, secret government agencies, scientific impossibilities, funny dogs, badass soldiers, chase scenes, drama, love, comedy, and giants robots destroying the city in hand-to-hand combat.

Since seeing this movie two days ago I've tried to think of at least one critical thing to say about it, and I haven't been able to come up with anything yet. It's intense at all the right times, funny all over the place, you can't help but like the good guys, you love to hate the bad guys, it has a much better story than a movie like this needs, there's a budding romance that never gets in the way, very few of the necessary characters have flat personalities, it never gets too weird2, and the special effects are perfect.

If you're looking for something fun to watch, if you're looking for something interesting, if you're looking for some very high quality film making, look no further than Transformers. It's more than meets the eye.3

high points: Everything... this whole movie is one high point after another.
Among them are: Bernie Mac and his rude mom. Pill-popping dog. Camaro the matchmaker. A word from the Starship Enterprise. Giant scorpion robot -vs- the U.S. Marines. Dance Dance Revolution -> run through a glass door -> FBI tackle into the pool.Drunk tactless mom. Adult sized super secret government agency underoos. Peeing alien robot. An homage to Anthony Damiano. Samurai cell phone, complete with mini machine gun and rocket launchers. "This thing is dangerous... lets take it to a major city with a huge civilian population" tactical thinking. Skyscraper dogfighting. Everything.
low points: With a movie this good, the inevitable sequel may be a letdown.

1) Rated PG13 or less, that is.
2) Especially for a movie based on a bunch of toys from the 1980's.
3) I'm sorry, I couldn't resist.
