The Simpsons Movie
About ten years ago somebody asked me "Why don't they make a Simpsons movie?" My answer to that person was, "Because if they do it'll be a last ditch effort to make a bunch of money before they shut the series down". I may or may not be right about the series being almost done, but if I am, this is a pretty good way to go out.
What other movie could get away with starting off by telling the whole audience how stupid they are for seeing it, and have that audience laugh their heads off for doing it? The same movie that has a crawl advertising a new FOX show1 called Are You Smarter Than A Celebrity. This movie doesn't try to hide the fact that it's really a glorified TV show, but embraces it. Still, it knows full well that it's a movie and can get away with things they couldn't on TV2.
I've always loved The Simpsons, so when I learned there was going to be a movie I went to great lengths to not get excited about it. I think that was a good choice, because although very entertaining, I think that if you see it with high expectations, you might come out of it a bit disappointed.
This movie is really fun. It's not the kind of movie that will change your life or your perception of the universe, but it's bigger and better than a regular episode, so if you like watching The Simpsons on TV there's no reason you won't like the movie.
high points: Why does everything I whip leave me?, President Schwarzenegger, Spiderpig.
low points: Pretty short for a movie.
1) Fictitious, of course.
2) Homer flipping the bird, Otto using a bong on the school bus, and showing Bart's winky, just to name a few.
